Solution Solar Inverter
Using my rooftop solar battery during the first full summer was when the setup finally started making sense financially. I had a 6kW array and a modest 14kWh LiFePO4 battery built with xuba/luyuan lifepo4 280ah eve cells. The battery is not glamorous, but it has changed how I use electricity every evening.
I programmed the solar battery to charge from excess production, then discharge between 4pm and 9pm, when my utility charges its highest rate. Before storage, I would export afternoon solar cheaply and buy power back at dinner time. Now the battery usually covers the induction cooktop, refrigerator, lights, and television. On sunny days, my evening grid consumption is almost zero.
My monthly bill used to hover around $180 in summer. It now averages $55 to $70, depending on air conditioning. That is a noticeable saving, although I am realistic about payback: the battery did not become free just because the bill dropped. Still, avoiding peak rates feels satisfying, especially when I see the inverter dashboard showing stored energy carrying the house.
The one hiccup came during a cloudy week. The battery reached its low state of charge earlier than expected, and I initially thought the cells were failing. After checking the monitoring app, I found my reserve setting was only 5% and the heat pump had run longer than usual. I raised the reserve to 15% and limited discharge during the most expensive hours. The next week was normal.
I still check terminal connections and battery temperature monthly, and I keep the unit in a ventilated utility room. It has been quiet, stable, and boring, which is exactly what I wanted from home energy storage. The benefit is not energy independence rhetoric; it is using more of my solar power and worrying less about peak electricity prices.
