Solution Solar Battery
Using my solar battery storage system for the past eight months has changed the way I think about our electricity bill. I installed a 10kWh lithium battery, not a tubular lead-acid unit, beside our inverter after getting tired of paying high evening rates. The setup was straightforward: a local electrician mounted the battery, connected the hybrid inverter, and spent an afternoon checking the app and backup settings. I mainly wanted to avoid blackouts and use more of our rooftop solar instead of exporting it cheaply.
On sunny days, the battery charges by about 2:30pm. It then runs the refrigerator, lights, Wi-Fi, and washing machine through dinner, when our time-of-use rate jumps. Before storage, our average evening use was roughly 7kWh. Now the grid meter barely moves between 5pm and 10pm. Our monthly bill has dropped from around $185 to $112, though weather and household habits obviously vary. That is about $73 saved each month, which feels more meaningful than the sales brochure promised.
The best part is seeing the battery state of charge climb while I cook, then watching it carry us through the expensive hours. I do still keep an eye on the battery reserve, especially before storms. Once, after several cloudy days, the system reached its 20% reserve and stopped discharging. I initially thought it was malfunctioning, but the app showed the low-state-of-charge protection clearly. I raised the reserve temporarily to 35% until the weather improved, and everything worked normally again.
For me, the practical win is not total energy independence. It is using stored solar power when electricity costs the most, while keeping a modest backup for essentials. If I expand later, I would add another battery module rather than replace the inverter. For now, this solar battery has quietly become a routine in our home life.
