Our electricity bill used to jump every summer evening, especially when the air conditioner and induction cooktop ran together. I installed a 10kWh LiFePO4 solar battery last spring, and the change was noticeable from the first week.
The setup was less dramatic than I expected. The installer mounted the battery beside the inverter in my garage, connected it to the existing rooftop solar, and programmed it to charge from surplus production. I chose the "sok lifepo4" option because the specifications looked sensible and the local support was available.
By late afternoon, the battery usually reaches 100%, so it carries the house through the expensive evening window. Before storage, my utility bill averaged around $185 per month during hot weather. This summer it has been closer to $112, despite similar air-conditioning use. The exact savings vary with cloudy days, but peak-hour grid imports have almost disappeared.
One small hiccup taught me more than the installation manual. After a firmware update, the inverter stopped discharging at 5:00 p.m., leaving me on grid power during the peak period. I checked the app and found its operating schedule had reset to default. Changing the reserve setting from 30% to 20% fixed it, and the battery resumed normally that evening.
I now keep a 20% backup reserve because short outages happen here during storms. When the neighborhood lost power for about two hours, the battery switched over quietly and kept the refrigerator, Wi-Fi, and a few lights running. I noticed the transfer only because the microwave clock blinked afterward. The battery fan is audible if I stand next to it, but from the kitchen it is barely noticeable.
That practical reliability matters more to me than flashy app charts: it lowers peak demand, uses solar after sunset, and makes my costs predictable each month.
