Solution Solar Battery
It’s been about six months since we had our solar energy storage system installed, and honestly, the biggest change has been a mental one. Before, I was constantly checking the weather forecast, trying to predict when we'd use the most power and bracing myself for the electricity bill. Now, it's a lot more peaceful.
One of the aspects I’ve been most impressed with is how seamlessly the battery handles peak hours. We live in an area where electricity prices skyrocket from 4 PM to 9 PM. Initially, I was skeptical that our solar battery would make a significant dent in those charges. But it’s been a revelation. Our solar panels charge the battery throughout the day, and as soon as those peak rates kick in, the house automatically switches over to battery power. We haven’t seen our peak hour charges exceed a few dollars on most days since then, a massive drop from what we used to pay. It feels like a little act of rebellion against the utility company, in a good way!
I’ve also been keeping an eye on the battery's performance, especially seeing as we didn't opt for the most expensive models, though we did ensure our solar installer offered quality lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery options. We’ve had a few cloudy days where the battery didn't quite fill up to 100%, but even then, it significantly reduced our reliance on the grid during those expensive evening hours. It’s a small, but important, piece of our home's energy puzzle. We’re even considering adding another battery unit down the line, and I'm actively looking for information on 'ni fe batteries for sale' to see if expanding is cost-effective. It's a learning process, but a rewarding one.
