The biggest difference showed up between 5 and 9 p.m. Before storage, the battery stayed on the grid during those hours, when cooking, running the dishwasher, and charging phones pushed our usage higher. Now the solar panels charge the battery through the afternoon, and the inverter automatically carries us through the peak period. My first full month with the battery dropped from about $186 to $112. Saving $74 felt real because daytime solar used to be wasted.

What I appreciate most is the battery state-of-charge display. I can see exactly how much energy remains instead of guessing. On sunny days it reaches 100% by mid-afternoon; on cloudy days, the system sometimes reaches only 58%, so I leave the water heater for lunchtime. That small habit has made our backup power last longer overnight.

I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. After a firmware update, the inverter stopped switching to battery mode at sunset. The app showed “standby,” although the battery was at 76%. I restarted the inverter and checked the operating mode setting; normal discharge resumed that evening. Customer support later confirmed the update had reset one setting. It was frustrating, but not a hardware failure.

I would not call a home battery effortless: installation required cable sizing, clearance, and electrician approval. Still, the lithium battery has made our solar setup quieter and more predictable. I check the app but no longer obsess over cloudy hours. The real win is using more of my own solar power and buying less electricity when rates are highest.
