Solution Solar Battery DIY Parts
Running my home battery through a growatt sph 3600 has changed the way I think about electricity bills.
Before the installation, I used most of my solar power during the day and sent the surplus back to the grid. At night, the house quietly pulled electricity from the utility, especially during expensive peak hours. My first month with solar energy storage made the difference obvious: I started charging the battery after sunrise and relied on it after dinner, when rates were highest.
The setup was less dramatic than I expected. The installer mounted the inverter and battery in my garage, connected the unit to my rooftop solar panels, and showed me the monitoring app. I spent the first week checking the battery state of charge far too often. Watching it climb toward 100% by afternoon was oddly satisfying, though cloudy days still required some grid power.
The biggest benefit comes between 4 and 9 p.m. My dishwasher, home office equipment, heat pump, and refrigerator run normally, but the stored solar power covers much of that evening load. My average bill dropped from roughly $190 to $95, although weather and utility rates vary. I am not claiming the battery erased my bill; winter heating still hurts. But cutting peak consumption has made the investment feel practical rather than theoretical.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. The app showed the battery at 100%, but the house was drawing from the grid during a sunny afternoon. I found the backup reserve setting had been raised accidentally during an update. Lowering it restored normal operation within minutes; no reset or technician visit was needed. That small hiccup also taught me to check operating modes before assuming something failed.
After six months, I appreciate the battery most on ordinary evenings.
