Running my home on a solar battery has changed the way I think about electricity bills. Last summer I installed a growatt 5kw es LiFePO4 Battery alongside my rooftop solar panels. I chose it mainly to avoid buying expensive grid power in the evening, and that has been the biggest practical win.
Before the battery, my inverter would export spare midday solar and then pull electricity back after dinner. Now the battery charges from solar during the afternoon and powers our lights, refrigerator, and Wi-Fi overnight. I set a reserve level of 20%, so there’s still backup capacity if the grid fails. My utility bill has dropped from roughly $180 a month to around $95, although weather and seasonal rates obviously change that number. The difference is especially noticeable on days when the air conditioner runs after 4 p.m.
The only hiccup came during the first week. One morning I noticed the battery had stopped discharging at night, even though the monitoring app showed plenty of stored energy. I checked the settings and found the inverter had switched to a backup-only mode after a brief power flicker. I restarted the system and restored the time-of-use schedule; it has behaved normally since. That small issue was frustrating, but the app made diagnosis fairly straightforward, and I did not need a technician visit.
What I appreciate most is how quietly the system works. It sits in my garage, takes little space, and I rarely hear anything besides a faint inverter fan on hot afternoons. The LiFePO4 battery feels like practical equipment rather than a complicated gadget. I still check the state-of-charge graph once or twice a week, but I am no longer constantly thinking about it. For my household, the combination of solar self-consumption, peak-hour savings, and modest backup protection has made the investment feel worthwhile.
