growatt 48v all in one 48V Battery

Running my home battery after sunset has changed the way I think about electricity. I installed a growatt 48v all in one 48V Battery alongside my rooftop solar system last summer, mainly to reduce the power I bought during expensive evening hours. The installation was surprisingly straightforward. My installer mounted the unit in the garage, connected it to the inverter and main panel, and configured the battery settings through the monitoring app.

The biggest difference appears between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m., when our utility charges its peak rate. Before adding energy storage, cooking dinner, running the dishwasher, and using the heat pump all pulled electricity from the grid. Now, the solar battery usually carries those loads. On a sunny day, the battery reaches full charge by early afternoon, then discharges steadily through the evening. I still draw a little grid power on cloudy days, but my peak-hour usage has dropped noticeably.

My bill has fallen by roughly 25 to 35 percent compared with the same months last year, although weather and our habits make the exact savings vary. I especially appreciate seeing the battery state of charge in the app. It helps me decide whether to run the washing machine immediately or wait until tomorrow’s solar production.

I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. After a firmware update, the battery stopped discharging overnight and remained at its reserve setting. I checked the app, found that the backup reserve had changed from 20 percent to 80 percent, and corrected it. Normal operation returned that evening.

The system is not completely hands-off—I occasionally check the charge level and clean the inverter area—but it has been dependable. For me, the main benefit of this lithium battery storage setup is not energy independence; it is using more of my own solar power and avoiding the utility’s most expensive hours.
