Solution LiFePO4 Battery Cell
Running my home battery system for the past year has changed how I think about electricity bills. I installed a Growatt inverter with a 10kWh lithium battery, and the older unit I kept in the garage is a growatt 4200 mtl. My main goal was simple: store surplus solar during the day and avoid expensive evening rates.
On sunny days, the battery usually reaches 100% by mid-afternoon. Around 5 p.m., when cooking, laundry, and the heat pump start competing for power, the battery takes over. Before storage, my household regularly pulled 6–8 kWh from the grid during those peak hours. Now that figure is normally below 1 kWh, unless we have several cloudy days. My electricity bill dropped by roughly 30–35% compared with the same months last year. That number varies with weather and tariffs, but seeing the utility meter barely move after dinner is genuinely satisfying.
The most useful practical feature has been the battery reserve setting. I keep 20% held back for outages, rather than draining everything to chase the last few cents of savings. We had a short evening outage during a storm, and the lights, refrigerator, router, and a few outlets stayed powered. The switchover was quick enough that I only noticed because the inverter app sent an alert.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. The battery stopped charging at 82% for two days. The app showed no serious fault, and after checking the cables and restarting the inverter, I discovered a temperature warning from the garage. Opening the door and improving airflow solved it.
For me, solar panels alone reduced consumption, but battery storage made the savings predictable. I still watch energy prices and clean the panels, but I no longer feel helpless during peak-rate evenings. That peace of mind matters nearly as much as savings.
