Replacing my old lead-acid battery with a growatt 3.6 kw 48V Battery made the biggest difference during our evening peak hours. Before the change, my solar panels produced plenty of power during the day, but I still pulled electricity from the grid after dinner, when rates were highest. Now, the battery stores the extra daytime solar and runs our refrigerator, Wi-Fi, lights, television, and occasionally the washing machine until bedtime.
The first bill after installation was the moment I became convinced. Our monthly usage did not change much, but the peak-hour portion dropped noticeably. I used to see the battery inverter switch between solar and grid power several times in the evening. With this solar energy storage setup, the battery usually takes over around 5 p.m. and keeps going until about 10 p.m. On sunny days, it still has roughly 30 percent charge left before the overnight recharge cycle. My bill savings average about $35 to $50 per month, depending on the weather and air-conditioning use.
I did have one small troubleshooting moment. One morning, the battery showed a warning and stopped charging. I checked the cables, restarted the inverter, and found that the battery breaker had tripped after a brief utility outage. Resetting it cleared the problem, although I watched the system for the rest of the day before trusting it again. Since then, it has worked quietly without further issues.
What I appreciate most is not just the energy savings, but the predictability. I can see the state of charge, solar production, and household load in the monitoring app, so I know whether we have enough stored energy for the evening. The battery backup is also reassuring during short outages. It does not make us completely independent, especially during several cloudy days, but this 48V battery has made our home energy use cheaper and much less dependent on peak grid prices.
