Solution LiFePO4 Battery Cell
Running my solar battery system for the past six months has changed how I think about electricity bills. I installed a 10kWh lithium battery alongside a growatt 10kw solar inverter, mainly to avoid buying expensive power from the grid during the evening peak.
The difference was noticeable almost immediately. Before the battery, my solar panels stopped helping when the sun went down, just as we started cooking dinner, running the dishwasher, and using the heat pump. Now, the battery stores excess daytime solar energy and usually carries the house from about 5 p.m. until bedtime. On sunny days, my evening grid usage is almost nothing. My monthly bill has dropped by roughly 35–45%, depending on the weather and how much heating we use.
What I appreciate most is that the system works quietly in the background. I check the monitoring app occasionally, but I am not constantly adjusting settings. The app shows solar production, battery charge, household consumption, and grid imports clearly enough for me to understand where the savings come from. I have learned to run the washing machine and charge tools during the middle of the day whenever possible, when the solar panels are producing more than the house needs.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. After a firmware update, the battery stopped discharging overnight for two days. The inverter showed no serious fault, but the battery stayed at its reserve level. I contacted the installer, who changed one operating setting remotely, and everything returned to normal. Since then, I have kept the backup reserve at about 20%, which gives me some protection during an outage without sacrificing too much daily battery use.
It has not eliminated my electricity bill, but the home energy storage system has made it far more predictable. For me, the biggest win is using my own solar power after sunset instead of paying peak rates.
