Solution Solar Battery
Running our solar battery every evening has changed how I think about electricity bills. Before installing a 10kWh home energy storage battery, I simply sent excess daytime solar power back to the grid and bought it back during expensive evening hours. The difference became obvious after the first full month.
My system uses a fronius hybrid inverter, which charges the battery from my rooftop solar array between late morning and mid-afternoon. Once the sun goes down, I run the dishwasher, washing machine, refrigerator, and most lights from stored energy. I used to watch the electricity meter climb after dinner, especially when cooking with the induction hob. Now the battery usually covers that whole period. On ordinary days, grid consumption drops to almost nothing until breakfast.
The practical saving has been larger than I expected. My evening peak usage was roughly 7kWh, and shifting most of it to the battery cut my monthly bill by about 35%. It varies with weather, of course. During a cloudy winter week, I still needed grid power, but the battery reduced the expensive evening portion. In summer, I often finish the day with 30% charge remaining, even after running the air conditioner.
One small troubleshooting moment taught me more than the installation manual. After a firmware update, the inverter stopped sending surplus solar into the battery. The app showed “standby,” although the panels were producing normally. I restarted the system once, checked the battery isolator, and waited ten minutes. Nothing changed. The installer remotely rolled back the update, and charging resumed that afternoon. Since then, I check the app after updates instead of assuming everything is fine.
I am happiest with the quiet, automatic routine. I do not think about energy arbitrage every day; I simply use solar power when it is available and stored.
