X marks the spot: my old electricity meter used to spin fastest after dinner, when our solar panels had stopped producing and the house switched to grid power. After installing a home battery, that pattern changed more than I expected. I chose the exide imtt2000 after comparing usable capacity, inverter compatibility, and the installer’s advice, rather than chasing the biggest battery I could find.
My main focus was peak-hour savings. I set the battery to charge from excess midday solar generation and discharge between five and nine in the evening. During the first month, I watched the energy monitor almost obsessively. On sunny days, the battery usually reached full charge before lunch. By dinner, it carried the refrigerator, Wi-Fi, lights, television, and occasionally my washing machine without pulling expensive grid electricity.
The difference showed clearly on my bill: my evening consumption fell from roughly 9 kWh a day to about 2 kWh. Depending on the weather, that saves me around $35 to $50 monthly. It is not a dramatic overnight transformation, but over a year it pays for groceries, and I notice the difference most during hot weeks when air-conditioning would otherwise run during expensive peak periods.
The one hiccup happened during a cloudy week when the battery showed a low-temperature warning early one morning. Nothing was broken; the garage had become unusually cold, and the system paused charging as a protection measure. I initially thought the inverter had failed, so I checked the app, read the alert details, and called the installer. They explained that the battery management system was doing exactly what it should.
After I improved ventilation and waited for the temperature to rise, charging resumed normally. That small incident made me appreciate the safety controls more than any specification sheet could. Reliable backup matters too.
