Nearly a year ago, I added an enerdrive battery to my rooftop solar system, mainly because our evening electricity use was eating into the savings. During the day, the panels often produced more power than we needed, then the house switched straight back to grid electricity after sunset. I wanted to keep more of that solar energy for ourselves.
The biggest difference has been peak-hour usage. I programmed the battery to charge from solar during the afternoon and discharge after dinner, when the induction cooktop, dishwasher, television, and heat pump are all running. Before the battery, our smart meter showed a noticeable spike between roughly 5 and 9 p.m. Now, on a normal sunny day, those hours are mostly covered by stored power. Our daily bill has dropped by around $3 to $5, depending on the weather and how much heating or cooling we use. That may not sound dramatic, but across a month it is genuinely noticeable.
The installation itself was less disruptive than I expected. The installer mounted the battery beside the inverter, updated the energy management settings, and walked me through the monitoring app. I check the app more than I thought I would, especially the solar generation and state-of-charge graphs. It is satisfying seeing the battery fill instead of watching excess solar disappear to the grid for a modest feed-in credit.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. After a firmware update, the battery stopped discharging for one evening. The app showed it as available, but the house was pulling from the grid. I restarted the system using the proper shutdown sequence, and it returned to normal the next day. Support also confirmed there was no fault.
The battery has not eliminated my bill, and winter performance is weaker. Still, solar storage helps me avoid peak-hour spikes.
