Solution Solar Battery DIY Parts
Early last summer, I installed a deye sun 6k inverter with a 10kWh lithium battery after watching my electricity bills climb. The setup was less intimidating than expected, although getting the CT clamp facing the right direction took two tries. The electrician explained that the clamp measures household consumption, so the battery energy management system knows when to charge or discharge.
My main goal was peak-hour bill savings, not energy independence. On sunny days, solar panels fill the battery by midafternoon, and our refrigerator, internet equipment, and evening cooking run from stored power once utility rates rise. Before installing it, our expensive hours regularly added about $4 to $6 a day. Now, those same hours usually cost me less than a dollar, depending on air-conditioning use. Last month, the battery reduced grid consumption by roughly 310 kWh and cut the bill by about $82 compared with the previous summer month.
The most useful feature has been the reserve control. I keep 25 percent battery backup for outages, but the system still uses the remaining capacity every evening. During a storm last October, the grid failed for nearly three hours. My lights, router, freezer, and gas furnace continued working, and I barely noticed except for the inverter clicking over. That small moment convinced me the battery was doing more than shifting solar power; it was protecting normal life.
I did have one minor problem: after a firmware update, the monitoring app showed zero solar production even though the panels were charging. I restarted the Wi-Fi dongle and checked the inverter screen, then waited until the morning; the data eventually synchronized. Since then, I check the display rather than trusting the app. Overall, this solar battery setup has made our bill more predictable, and the savings feel enough to justify the cost.
