deye solar panel

Every evening, I used to watch my electricity meter climb during the expensive peak period, especially when cooking dinner, running the dishwasher, and charging devices. Since installing my home battery with a deye solar panel setup, that routine has changed noticeably.

The installation itself was easier than I expected, although the electrician spent a good amount of time deciding where to place the inverter and battery. Our garage has limited wall space, so keeping the battery away from damp areas while still leaving room for ventilation took some planning. Once everything was connected, the solar battery began charging during the day from our rooftop system. By late afternoon, it was usually sitting around 90–100%, depending on cloud cover.

The biggest difference appears between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m., when our utility rates are highest. Instead of buying much electricity from the grid, our battery storage system supplies the house. On a normal sunny day, we use almost no peak-rate electricity. Before the installation, those evening hours were responsible for a surprisingly large part of our monthly bill. Our first full month showed savings of about $65, and in summer, when the solar panels produce more energy, the savings have been closer to $90.

One small troubleshooting moment happened during a cloudy week. The battery stopped discharging at the percentage I expected, and I initially thought something was wrong with the solar inverter. After checking the monitoring app, I realized the backup reserve had been set higher than I remembered. Lowering that reserve restored normal operation, and I appreciated being able to diagnose it without calling anyone.

I still check the app most mornings, partly out of habit and partly because I enjoy seeing how much solar energy we used ourselves. The system has not eliminated every grid bill, but it has made our electricity costs more predictable. For me, the real benefit of residential energy storage is using my own daytime solar power later, when the house needs it most.
