deye hybrid

Evenings used to be the most frustrating part of my electricity bill. After dinner, our household was still running the oven, dishwasher, lights, and heat pump, right when the utility’s peak rate started. Since installing a deye hybrid inverter with a 10 kWh lithium battery, that routine has changed noticeably.

The installation itself was less dramatic than I expected. The battery went in beside the garage, while the inverter was mounted nearby and connected to our existing solar panels. My installer spent most of the time checking cable sizing, battery settings, and the backup circuits. I chose to keep the refrigerator, internet equipment, lights, and a few outlets on backup power rather than trying to run the whole house. That decision kept the system practical and avoided paying for capacity I rarely need.

The biggest benefit is peak-hour bill savings. During sunny afternoons, the solar panels power the house first and charge the battery with the excess energy. Around 4 p.m., the deye hybrid system begins discharging, so we use stored solar instead of pulling as much electricity from the grid. In an average month, my evening grid consumption has dropped by roughly 55 to 70 percent, depending on weather and how much cooking we do. My bill is usually $35 to $60 lower than before, which feels more useful than watching production numbers on an app.

I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. After a firmware update, the battery stopped discharging overnight even though it showed a healthy charge. I eventually found that the operating schedule had reset to a conservative setting. I restored the time-of-use schedule, restarted the inverter, and everything worked normally the next evening.

The battery has not eliminated every grid charge, especially during several cloudy winter days, but it has made our solar investment much more practical. I no longer feel that I am wasting afternoon solar energy while paying expensive rates after sunset.
