Solution Solar Inverter -
Solution LiFePO4 Battery Cell
9 months ago, I added a 10 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery to my rooftop solar system, mainly to avoid buying expensive electricity in the evening. My installer mounted the battery in the garage beside the inverter and connected it to a 48V battery bank with a built-in 19.2v bms module for monitoring and protection. The setup took most of a day, and the only frustrating part was waiting for the utility meter to recognize the new hybrid inverter.
The difference showed up immediately on sunny days. Before installing storage, my panels produced plenty of power at lunchtime, but I still pulled electricity from the grid after dinner. Now the battery charges from surplus solar until it reaches about 95%, then runs the refrigerator, lights, Wi-Fi, and television through the evening. I usually set it to discharge during peak-rate hours, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. On an average summer day, that cuts roughly 6 to 8 kWh from my evening grid usage. My monthly bill dropped from around $145 to between $70 and $85, depending on the weather.
I did have one small troubleshooting moment. After a firmware update, the battery stopped discharging at night even though the app showed a healthy state of charge. I restarted the inverter and checked the battery management system settings. The time-of-use schedule had reset itself, so the system was waiting for the wrong peak period. Fixing the schedule took five minutes, and it has worked normally since.
What I appreciate most is not complete energy independence—it still cannot carry the whole house through several cloudy days—but predictable savings and quieter evenings. The solar battery also gives me backup power during short outages, which has been more useful than expected. I now check the battery monitoring app once or twice a week, mostly out of curiosity, and I would add another battery before buying more panels.
