Solution LiFePO4 Battery Cell
2 years ago, I added a 10kWh solar energy storage battery to my home system, and the biggest difference has been what happens after sunset. Before the battery, my solar panels exported most of their afternoon power while I bought electricity back from the grid during the evening peak. Now the battery charges from excess solar around lunchtime and runs the house through dinner, which has made my daily electricity use feel much more predictable.
On a typical sunny day, it reaches about 95% by 2 p.m. My refrigerator, Wi-Fi equipment, lights, television, and washing machine then run from stored power instead of expensive grid electricity. I still use the grid overnight once the battery reaches its reserve level, but my monthly bill dropped from roughly $180 to between $95 and $115, depending on weather and heating use. That saving has been more noticeable than I expected because I am avoiding the high-rate hours rather than trying to eliminate grid usage completely.
I did have one small setup headache. During the first week, the battery stopped charging at 70%. The app showed no obvious fault, so I checked the settings and discovered the installer had left a conservative maximum state-of-charge limit enabled. After changing it to 95%, charging worked normally. I also keep a compact backup charging setup using 12v lifepo4 battery chargers lcd display for a small 12V LiFePO4 battery that powers my router during longer outages. It is separate from the main solar battery, but the LCD display makes voltage and charging status easy to understand.
The system has not made me completely energy independent, and cloudy winter days still require grid power. However, peak-hour bill savings and quieter evening operation have made the battery worthwhile for me. I mostly forget it is there, which is probably the best sign that the solar battery installation is doing its job.
